Harland Sanders was born in 1890 and he was brought up in a farm near
Henryville, Indiana. When Harland was 5 years old his father passed away which
forced his mother to work for a canning plant. Sanders was the eldest of his
two siblings so he had to take care of them. When sanders reached seven years
of age his mother taught him cooking. He left his family home at the age of 13
and went through many profession changes which had mixed reactions. In 1930 he
took over a Shell filling station just nearby North Corbin, Kentucky, and a
small town just beneath the Appalachian Mountain. This is where served his
first dish to travelers and local people which he learned when he was a child.
Sanders purchased a larger filling station on the opposite side of the road and
